Rio Grande [TeniPuri,RyoSakuKin+Ryoga]
Rio Grande was one of Pochi Land’s most popular rides. It simulated the wild rapids of the Amazon, with man-made waterfalls and rain showers that added a more realistic effect. It was a ride that aimed to drench people .Indeed, no person who had tried Rio Grande came out of it dry.
Rio Grande was their favorite. A trip to Pochi Land was never complete without stopping by the area where the fake river was located. But today, it seemed they would have to make an exception. And it’s all because of one person, someone who just invited himself on their date…
“I am not going on that thing,” Ryoga firmly said, pointing at the signboard that featured the ride’s name.
“That’s all right,Koshimae-look-a-like. You can just stand here and wait while the three of us have some fun.” Kintarou grinned as he began walking forward. “Let’s go,Sakuno-chan,Koshimae!”
“Oi, oi, wait a minute, you just can’t leave me here.” Ryoga pulled the red-haired boy back using the collar of his shirt. “I don’t think it’s fair that the three of you are enjoying yourselves while I’m left alone.”
”Well, it’s not like we wanted you to come to Pochi Land with us,” Kintarou grumbled.
“Is that so?” Ryoga raised an eyebrow. Smirking, he placed an arm around Kintarou’s neck and began strangling the younger boy. “In case you have forgotten, brat, I was the one who paid for your entrance tickets.”
“Arrg! I can’t..breathe...”the redhead managed to say as he tried to pry himself off the other boy’s grip. “Let me go, you jerk!”
“Make me!” Ryoga replied challengingly.
“Koshimae…help…”
Echizen sighed exasperatedly as he watched his brother and his friend in another one of their little encounters. Those two were like dogs and cats—you could not put them together in one place without resulting to conflict afterwards.
“Ryoga-san, please forgive him for what he has said earlier. He didn’t really mean it.”
Thankfully, to Ryoma’s relief, she was always around to mediate between the conflicting parties. He never considered himself to be quite skilled when it came to pacifying people. Tennis was his expertise after all, not human relations.
As what Ryoma had expected, a smile graced Ryoga’s lips upon hearing her request. “Since it’s you who’s asking, Sakuno-chan, I’ll gladly let this little monkey go,” the older Echizen said as he released the redhead from his hold.
Kintarou glared at him. “Hey,stop flirting with her!”
Ryoga glared back. “I wasn’t flirting, you dolt.”
Kintarou was about to retort, when Ryoma suddenly cut in. “That’s enough. We didn’t come here just to watch the two of you argue.” His tone sounded impatient. Grabbing Sakuno’s hand, he pulled her towards the awaiting Rio Grande. “Let’s go,Ryuuzaki.”
Kintarou pouted as he watched his friends walk away. He gave Ryoga one last glare, before he ran after the two. “Hey,wait for me!”
Ryoga frowned while he also followed them, though hesitantly. “Oi,I already told you I’m not riding that thing!”
“Well, you can stay here outside or join us—it’s your choice.” Ryoma stopped and looked back. “But regardless of what you choose, the three of us are going in there.”
“Yeah, because unlike you, we are not afraid of water,” Kintarou said teasingly, which garnered him a look of disapproval from the lone female in their group.
“Please, don’t start again.”
The redhead smiled at her apologetically.” Sorry.”
Ryoga sighed and raised his hands as a sign of surrender. Or false surrender. Echizen Ryoga would not back down that easily—not when he still had one more trick up his sleeve.“Fine, fine, I’ll join you,”he told them.
“Are you sure, Ryoga-san?”
“Yeah. I decided to give that Rio Grande thing a try. I want to prove to a certain somebody that I am not afraid of being drenched with water.” He gave Kintarou the evil eye. Kintarou merely ignored him. “Oh,speaking of being drenched…” The older Echizen suddenly smirked as his eyes lit up strangely.”… do you know that white cloth becomes translucent when it gets wet?”
Kintarou snorted. “And why do we have to care about—“He suddenly stopped when he realized something. He looked at Ryoma;Ryoma looked at Sakuno; Sakuno looked down at her shirt.
“Tsk.Tsk.” Ryoga shook his head. “And there are so many perverted people these days…” He mumbled (but still clearly enough for them to understand). Shrugging, he innocently looked at the three teens. “So…shall we go?”
A defeated look was what they gave him.
Ryoga chuckled inwardly.
Echizen Ryoga, one point. Brother and friends, zero.
Untitled [Waq Waq,Kagami]
The night sky was the first thing she saw upon opening her eyes. She was a bit surprised; she didn’t expect that she would be sleeping for the entire day. She looked to her left; a bonfire was set up to keep her warm.
Shio must have done it, she thought.
Groggily, she moved to sit up. A sudden surge of fear came through her upon seeing the unfamiliar scenery--the slightest sleepiness she had disappeared
She stood up and surveyed the area around her. She discovered she was now high up on a cliff, faraway from the Village of Two. She searched for her friends; she didn’t see any of them. Instead…
“Ah,I see that you’ve awakened.”
Her eyes widened upon seeing the “thing” hovering near the edge of the cliff. She could never forget its face.
“Khshathra…”she murmured while the Goujin-zou landed its feet on the ground. He walked towards her; she carefully took several steps back to create a safe a distance between them. She wasn’t worried about the Goujin-zou itself; she was more wary about the person inside it.
She watched in silence as the machine separated from its Sakimori, revealing a man owning a menacing grin.
“So we meet again, God. How are you?”
She ignored his question. “Where did you take me,Kalf? And where are Shio-kun and the others?!” she yelled.
Kalf crossed his arms over his chest and shook his head.” Tsk.Tsk. Is that how you repay your savior? You’re being ungrateful.”
“Saviour?” she mimicked.
“You were kidnapped by a machine while you were unconscious,” he replied. “I don’t know why that idiotic brat Shio left you outside the village unprotected. Good thing I was around. I saved you.”
God eyed him skeptically.” Is ‘saved’ the right word for it?” She smiled bitterly. “You want me too for your own selfish reasons.”
Kalf’s grin turned wider. “I’m glad you’ve fully understood your situation. But don’t worry. I’m not going to kill you.” He turned his back to walk towards the bonfire. “..Yet.”
He sat down on the ground; God continued to keep her distance.
“Hey, are you planning to just stand there?” he asked. “Come here by the fire. It’s much warmer.”
“No, thank you,” was her firm reply.
Kalf narrowed his eyes.” You will come here or else I’ll make you.”
Hesitantly, she followed his demand. The strictness in his tone warned her that something bad would happen if she rebelled against his wishes. She sat directly across him;the bonfire coming in between them.
Kalf took a blue pouch out of his robe and threw it at her. She deftly caught it. “What’s this?”
“Food,” came his reply. “I have to keep you alive until I’ve beaten all the Sakimori, especially that brat friend of yours.”
“You can’t defeat,Shio-kun,” she tried to match his arrogant tone. “He has gotten much stronger than the last time you’ve met him.
Kalf laughed. “Really? We’ll see. Now, eat.”
She opened the pouch; what she saw inside made her stare. Kalf gave her…cupcakes. Somehow, putting the words Kalf and cupcakes on the same sentence didn’t sound right.
“They’re not poisonous,” she heard him say. “I made sure not to put any poison when I made them.”
“You made these?” she stared at him incredulously. “ You mean you can…bake?”
“What? Did you think all I can do is pick up fights, destroy machines and kidnap unconscious girls?”
“Yes.”
“You offend me, God. “He smirked. ”But I like your honesty.” He waved a hand, gesturing her to try his work. “Go on.”
She took a cupcake out, a chocolate-flavored one to be exact, and tasted it. Unlike the food the Shio had been giving her (which all tasted like oil),Kalf’s cupcake, surprisingly, really tasted like a… cupcake. At last! Real food!
“Judging from how you’ve passed out earlier, and how you’re devouring the food now, I assume Armaiti’s Sakimori has not been feeding you properly?”
She swallowed before speaking. ”Shio-kun has been quite attentive to my needs,”she said in defense of the younger boy.
“Is that so?” Kalf raised an eyebrow. He snorted. “But he has been quite inattentive when it came to keeping you safe, ne? If he weren’t, you wouldn’t be here with me. Useless brat…”
“He is not useless!” she exclaimed while glaring at the Sakimori. Her face turned red as she tried to suppress her vexation from growing. She moved to eat another cupcake, venting out her frustration on the said pastry. The longer she had talked to Kalf, the quicker she had realized how much she didn’t like him. After finishing her second cupcake, she took a third one. And another one.
“I’m flattered. I didn’t know God would enjoy the food I created this much,” he remarked teasingly.
“I’m just hungry,” she reasoned. “Even something this bland becomes delicious when one’s hungry.”
“Is that so? “ He arched an eyebrow. Slowly,he stood up from the ground and walked over to her side. She gave him both a frightened and curious look. He snatched the pouch containing the cupcakes away from her hand and threw it over the cliff.
God hastily stood up and looked at him angrily, temporarily forgetting any fear she had of Kalf.. “Why did you do that?!”
Kalf merely smirked. “Well,I’ll be damned if I let God eat something that bland, right?”
After saying so, he walked to back to his side of the cliff; she stared at his back sharply.
It was official: Kalf would never become one of her favorite persons.
Drama King [Waq Waq,Knoll + Miir]
Miir loves his brother. Really, he does. And contrary to popular belief, he does appreciate everything that Knoll does for him .For one, he appreciates how Knoll single-handedly raised him up after their parents were killed by the machines;or how Knoll always sees to it that he has some food to eat, clothes to wear, a nice bed to sleep at. He even appreciates the fact that Knoll became a Sakimori for his sake. For Miir, Knoll is the best brother a person could have, and he finds himself fortunate that Knoll is his.
Yes, Miir loves his brother—there’s no doubt about it. If he were to die and live again, he wishes to be with Knoll still. But despite how much he loves the older boy, sometimes Miir can’t help but wonder how on earth did they become related to each other---not that having the same bloodline is a bad thing but he just finds it strange how he ended up being so optimistic and cheerful while Knoll ended up being like…this…
“Woe is me! This tragedy, my heart cannot accept. I have failed you, my dear brother Miir. I have failed you and Haurvatat. I have lost my chance to God and because of this, you are forever fated to suffer the consequence of my inadequacy. Oh,forgive me,Miir, forgive me!”
Miir smiles awkwardly while staring at his brother’s weeping face. Inwardly, he sighs exasperatedly. Knoll is a good person, thoughtful and generally, likable, but sometimes, he tends to overreact about really petty things…
“Oniisan,it’s actually all right. I’ve told you so many times before, there’s no need to worry about my legs; I personally think they’re fine the way they are,” he tries to convince the older boy again.
“Stop,my brother!”
And he ends up failing. Again.
Knoll gathers him in his embrace.” Oh, Miir. You do not need to hide your pain behind a happy face—I already know.” Gently, he pushes the younger boy away. Sobbing, he wipes the tears away from his eyes. “But do not worry. I will find another way to get rid of that dreadful disease. You will be free,Miir, I promise you will be free!”
Miir gives him a blank look.
“But before that, I must first get rid of this pain I’m feeling,” Knoll declares as he stands up from kneeling. He looks up into the sky. “Oh,Haurvatat,my precious Goujin-zou I miss you wherever you are.Forgive me for being weak.”He sighs. “If you’ll excuse me,Miir, I need some time alone…” he says before walking away, leaving his brother to stare after him.
“Was...was that really your brother,Miir?’ a boy, who has been watching the entire scene between the brothers, comes up to Miir and asks.“He is a bit...weird.”
Miir turns to face his friend. “That is the understatement of the year.”
